The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Similar to a traditional tooth extraction, you will be given local anesthesia to numb the various parts of your mouth. Once Dr. Zhang is satisfied with your inability to feel any pain, she will begin removing your wisdom teeth.

If they have partially erupted, she will perform a simple procedure – one that involves gently moving the tooth back and forth until it becomes loose and detaches from the ligaments underneath. If the tooth is impacted or beneath the gumline, a more complex approach will be required.

Making a small incision in the gums, she will expose the impacted wisdom tooth and dissect it into sections. This ensures easier removal and less damage to the bone. Clean gauze will help minimize any bleeding and encourage blood clots to form in the surgical sites.
