What Happens During a Root Canal?
You will be provided a local anesthetic to numb your mouth so that you feel no pain. Once your tooth is isolated with a dental dam, a small opening will be created in the crown of your affected tooth. Dr. Zhang will then begin to clear out the diseased inner layers, including the pulp chamber and nearby root canals.
Once the pulp is removed, she will sanitize the tooth before filling it will gutta-percha – a biocompatible substance that takes the place of the pulp. A tight seal will then be put into place before a custom-made dental crown is secured on top a few weeks later.
